AR Rahman to pen memoir 'Rahman: A Renaissance'
The memoir, co-authored with writer Rupa Chakravarty, will explore the Oscar-winning composer’s life, music, influences and creative journey.
Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman is set to release a memoir titled Rahman: A Renaissance, offering readers a closer look at his life, music and creative journey.
Rahman is co-authoring the book with writer Rupa Chakravarty. The memoir will explore the ideas, influences and experiences that have shaped his career, from his early years and artistic evolution to the challenges and philosophies behind his work.
Rahman announced the project in a post on X.
"A new chapter begins. Rupa Chakravarty and I come together as co-authors for Rahman: A Renaissance. The book offers a closer look at the music, ideas, challenges, influences and creative journey that have shaped my world. More details will follow soon," the 59-year-old composer wrote.
The announcement was accompanied by a photograph of Rahman and Chakravarty.
In a separate statement, Rahman said his music is closely connected to the evolution of his thoughts and experiences.
"My music comes from the constant evolution of my mind. The challenges, aspirations, dilemmas and tests I go through, the brotherhood I experience, the psychological turmoil, they are all interconnected," he said.
Rahman made his debut as a film composer with Mani Ratnam's Roja in 1992. He subsequently composed music for films including Bombay (1995), Dil Se (1998), Lagaan (2001), Rang De Basanti (2006) and Rockstar (2011).
He has won six National Film Awards for music direction, as well as two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe for his work on Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
