Gulshan flat fraud case: Tulip, ex-Rajuk legal adviser's charge-framing hearing deferred to 11 Jan

The hearing on framing charges against British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq and former Rajuk assistant legal adviser Sardar Mosharraf Hossain in a corruption case over the alleged illegal acquisition of a Gulshan-2 flat has been deferred to 11 January next year.

The hearing was scheduled for today (1 September), but could not proceed as the High Court has stayed all proceedings in the case for a year following a petition by Mosharraf seeking its quashing under Section 561A of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Dhaka Special Judge-5 Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun set the new date after a hearing today. ACC lawyer Mir Ahmed Ali Salam confirmed the matter.

He said the proceedings would remain suspended until the High Court concludes the hearing on Mosharraf's quashing petition.

On 15 April 2025, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, daughter of Sheikh Rehana and niece of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former Rajuk assistant legal adviser Shah Md Khosruzzaman and former assistant legal adviser-1 Sardar Mosharraf Hossain over allegations that they illegally obtained an Eastern Housing Limited flat in Gulshan-2.

According to the case statement, the accused allegedly abused their power and acted in collusion to take possession of the flat without making any payment and later register it.

The property is Flat No B/201 at House Nos 5A and 5B (old), now 113 and 11B (new), on Road 71 in Gulshan-2.

After completing its investigation, the ACC submitted a chargesheet on 11 December 2025 against Tulip and Mosharraf under sections 161, 165(A), 467, 468, 471 and 109 of the Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

On 18 February 2026, the court took cognisance of the chargesheet against Tulip and Mosharraf and issued arrest warrants against them.

On 8 April, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz transferred the case to Dhaka Special Judge-5 after finding it ready for trial.

Mosharraf later filed a petition with the High Court seeking quashing of the case under Section 561A of the Code of Criminal Procedure. On 7 July, the High Court stayed all proceedings in the case for one year following his petition.

Meanwhile, another accused, Shah Khosruzzaman, filed a separate writ petition with the High Court challenging the investigation. Following his petition, the High Court stayed the investigation against him for three months. The ACC later moved the Chamber Court but received a "no order."
