Man hacked to death in Chattogram’s Satkania
Police initially misidentified the victim as a CMP-listed criminal, but later clarified he was a different person with a similar name.
A man was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Satkania upazila of Chattogram last night (30 August).
The incident occurred in the southern part of Purangarh Union when the victim, identified as Zahed, was travelling by motorcycle, said police.
Mohammad Ariful Islam Siddiqui, additional superintendent of police (Satkania Circle), told The Business Standard that police initially identified the victim as a Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP)-listed criminal named "Pichchi Zahed". However, investigation later found that the deceased was not the same person, despite similarities in their names.

"The CMP-listed accused Pichchi Zahed has not been killed. The deceased is a resident of the same upazila and has at least eight cases filed against him, including a murder case and allegations involving various offences," Ariful said.
According to police, a group of unidentified assailants intercepted Zahed while he was travelling on his motorcycle and hacked him.
Police suspect a previous rivalry may have been behind the killing, the ASP said, adding that the identities and motives of the attackers are being investigated.
The victim's father was identified as Sarbahara Nuru.
Police said Zahed had been accused in at least eight cases filed at different police stations, including a murder case and other criminal offences. However, he was not the CMP-listed criminal known as "Pichchi Zahed".
The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy, police said.
