Discovering Halda Valley: From garden to cup

There is a river in Chittagong that scientists travel from around the world to study. The Halda rises in the Khagrachhari hills, threads between the Sitakundu ranges, and carries something in its water that cannot be manufactured: purity.

A single-estate tea garden has been quietly producing some of the finest cups in Bangladesh since 2003. Its name is Halda Valley - and by the time a leaf reaches your cup, it has already carried a long and deliberate journey.

The Teas

The Black Tea is where it all began. Full-bodied and malty, with a dark reddish liquor and a warmth most black teas cannot replicate. The estate's Model A garden status, 99% clone plants, and permanent irrigation produce something that earns its place in any serious tea lover's shelf.

Dragon Well Green Tea arrived in 2015, after a Chinese tea master visiting the estate noticed the plants bore a striking resemblance to those in Fujian. The result is a pan-fired green with a distinctive emerald colour, a grassy chestnut character, and a flavour that lingers far longer than expected.

Silver Needle White Tea is the most patient of the range. Handpicked buds still covered in fine white hair, solar-dried with extraordinary care, producing a bright apricot liquor with nectarine smoothness that rewards anyone willing to steep at 75 degrees and simply wait.

Golden Eyebrow Black Tea, introduced in 2018 under the supervision of a Jin Jun Mei master, offers a honey-sweet, translucent gold liquor with long curling leaves and a mellow elegance that invites multiple infusions.

Red Robe Oolong completes the specialty range - a Wu Yi Rock tradition now grown in Bangladeshi soil, earthy and mineral with exotic floral notes and a roasted sweetness that feels both ancient and completely new.
