Mobasser Monem steps down as PSC chairman
Monem, who was appointed PSC chairman by the interim government in October 2024, resigned today.
Mobasser Monem has resigned as chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) this afternoon (18 August), according to Prothom Alo.
Earlier in the day, Monem had indicated that he was resigning but declined to comment, saying, "You'll know."
Meanwhile, PSC Public Relations Officer SM Matiur Rahman told BBC Bangla, "Sir [Monem] is suffering from various health complications, including diabetes and high blood pressure. Around 1:30pm, he told us that he would resign on health grounds."
After the interim government took office on 8 August 2024 following the July Mass Uprising, the then PSC chairman Mohammad Sohrab Hossain and 12 commission members resigned.
On 9 October 2024, the interim government appointed Mobasser Momen, a professor in the Public Administration Department at Dhaka University, as the new chairman of the PSC.
