Donald Trump says the US is choosing economic pressure over new military strikes to push Iran towards a deal. As Iran faces financial strain, Oman-mediated talks over reopening the Strait of Hormuz are reportedly nearing their final stages.

But tensions remain high, with Iran demanding an end to the US naval blockade, a halt to military actions and war damages. The June ceasefire also collapsed over disputes surrounding control of the strategic waterway.
