SSC 2026: Sylhet pass rate plunges to 5-year low of 58.33%
A total of 89,421 students from 973 educational institutions under the Sylhet Education Board appeared for the SSC examinations this year.
The Sylhet Education Board recorded a pass rate of 58.33% in this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, the lowest figure in the last five years.
The results were announced at 10am today (10 August) in the Sylhet Education Board conference room by Professor Bilkis Yasmin, the board's controller of examinations.
An analysis of the board's results shows that the pass rate in Sylhet has declined steadily over the past five years.

It stood at 78.82% in 2022, 76.06% in 2023, 73.05% in 2024, 68.57% in 2025 and 58.33% this year.
Bilkis said the education ministry had instructed authorities to install CCTV cameras at every examination centre this year. "This time, the students sat for the examinations in a clean and transparent environment. I think the results reflect that," she said.
She continued, "My observation is that the results reflect the level of preparation of the students. There was no discrimination in our assessment."
She said a larger number of students have failed in English and mathematics this year.
"The students from the humanities stream are generally weaker in English and mathematics. They accounted for most of the failures," she added.
According to results published this year, the pass rate in the Dhaka board was 71.63%, 66.27% in Jashore board, 65.42% in Cumilla board, 63.67% in Rajshahi board, 60.35% in Barishal board, 59.48% in Chattogram board, 58.33% in Sylhet, 58.05% in Dinajpur and 57.39% in Mymensingh board.
Despite the decline in the overall pass rate, the number of students achieving a GPA-5 increased by 222 this year in Sylhet. A total of 3,614 students secured GPA-5 last year, compared with 3,836 this year.
Female students performed better than their male counterparts in terms of both the GPA-5 results and the overall pass rate. This year, 56.78% of female students passed, compared with 56.12% of male students.
Nine educational institutions in Sylhet achieved a 100% pass rate this year.
A total of 89,421 students from 973 educational institutions under the Sylhet Education Board took part in this year's SSC examinations. Of them, 51,957 students passed.
