6 leaders, activists of banned Awami League arrested during secret meeting: Police
Police say they are investigating the purpose and motive behind the meeting.
Gulshan police last night (7 August) arrested six leaders and activists of the banned Awami League during what law enforcement described as a secret meeting at a restaurant in the capital.
The six are Md Mehedi Masud Chowdhury, 55; SM Rezwan Habib Alif, 33; Md Nannu Mia, 38; Md Aminur Rahman, 42; Sajal Ahmed, 29; and Md Ibrahim Hossain, 33.
According to Gulshan police, authorities received information that several leaders and activists of the banned party had gathered for a confidential meeting at a restaurant on the fourth floor of Police Plaza in the Gulshan area at around 9:15pm yesterday.
Acting on the tip-off, a patrol team from Gulshan Police Station conducted a raid and arrested them.
Police said they are investigating the purpose and motive behind the meeting, as well as the connections among the individuals involved.
Legal proceedings are underway against the arrestees, they added.
