Two new cases have been filed with Chawkbazar police station against suspended Dhaka South City Corporation councillor Erfan Salim and his bodyguard Zahidul Islam for carrying illegal firearms and possessing narcotics.

Lieutenant Colonel Ashique Billah, director of legal and media wing of Rapid Action Battalion Headquarters, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard on Tuesday.

On Sunday evening, Erfan, son of MP Haji Selim assaulted a navy officer and his wife near the Kalabagan crossing in Dhanmondi area after the official's motorcycle collided with Erfan's car.

The military officer filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on Monday morning accusing the lawmaker's son and others.

Following the case, RAB launched the drive and arrested Erfan Selim and his bodyguard Md Jahidul Islam.

A mobile court on Monday sentenced Erfan along with his driver to jail for one year after finding illegal liquor and unauthorised walkie-talkies at his house.
