Swedish envoy meets Jamaat chief, discuss Investment and budget

Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Nicolas Weeks met leader of the opposition and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman at his Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office on today(21 June, 2026).
At the meeting, the two sides discussed the post-election situation in Bangladesh, bilateral relations and investment between Bangladesh and Sweden, international relations and other issues of mutual interest, according to a press release issued by Jamaat.
They also expressed optimism that Swedish investment in Bangladesh will increase further in the future and hoped for Sweden's continued strong support for Bangladesh.

The two sides exchanged views on the proposed national budget, tax structure reforms, effective solutions to the Rohingya crisis and various projects being implemented in Bangladesh with Swedish funding.
The Swedish ambassador was accompanied by First Secretary Matilda Svensson and Second Secretary and Head of Politics, Trade and Communications Olle Lundin.
Also present at the meeting were the Opposition Leader's Foreign Affairs Adviser Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman and member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee Ali Ahmad Mabrur.
