Tk4,400cr proposed for EC Secretariat in FY27 budget
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury says the allocation would be used to implement various projects and programmes, including the organisation of local government elections
The government has proposed an allocation of Tk4,400 crore for the Election Commission Secretariat in the FY2026-27 budget.
In his budget speech delivered in parliament today (11 June), Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the allocation would be used to implement various projects and programmes, including the organisation of local government elections.
According to the proposed budget, the funds will be spent on holding two city corporation elections, four municipal general elections, 10 upazila parishad general elections and 10 union parishad general elections.
The allocation will also support the observance of National Voters' Day, the updating of the voter list with photographs, and the registration of Bangladeshi citizens residing abroad, alongside the issuance of smart National Identity (NID) cards to expatriate Bangladeshis.
In addition, the proposed budget includes funding for various projects and programmes, including the installation of necessary cyber sensor systems to integrate the National Identity (NID) system with the common platform of the Critical Information Infrastructure (CII).
