Rescue train sent to recover derailed Brahmaputra Express also goes off tracks; rail services resume after 2.5 hours
Train services on the Dhaka–Mymensingh and Mymensingh–Jamalpur routes have been suspended.
Train services on the Dhaka–Mymensingh and Mymensingh–Jamalpur routes resumed two and a half hours after a rescue train sent to recover a derailed train also went off the tracks.
According to railway sources, a power car of the Dhaka-bound Brahmaputra Express derailed around 9:12am today (10 June) near the Anandamohan College level crossing in Mymensingh city. The train was travelling from Dewanganj in Jamalpur to Dhaka.
The derailment initially disrupted train operations on the Jamalpur–Mymensingh–Dhaka route.
To recover the stranded section of the train, railway authorities dispatched a rescue train from the Mymensingh locomotive shed.
However, around 10am, the rescue train itself derailed in the Krishtapur area before reaching Mymensingh Junction Station.
Mymensingh Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Akhtar Hossain said the Brahmaputra Express managed to reach the station with its first nine coaches after the power car derailed, while the remaining section was left behind.
"A rescue train was sent to recover the stranded portion, but it also derailed on the way," he added.
Train services returned to normal around 12:30pm after another relief train from Mymensingh rushed to the spot and salvaged the derailed coaches, said Akhtar Hossain.
