The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled attempts by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push people into Bangladesh through river routes along the Sundarbans coast in Satkhira.
The attempted push-ins took place in the border areas under the jurisdiction of the Nil Dumur Battalion 17 BGB.
According to the 17 BGB headquarters, from 8 June to the early hours of today (10 June), India's 74 and 77 BSF battalions gathered around 15-20 men, women and children and tried to push them into Bangladesh through different border points, including river routes.
The attempt failed due to the vigilance of the BGB, the border force said.
Lt Col Shahariar Rajib, commanding officer of 17 BGB, said, "No individual or group will be allowed to enter Bangladesh territory illegally. Push-in attempts are being strictly resisted."
"It is believed that they may try again. The BGB is also prepared to resist such attempts.
"Patrols are being intensified throughout the night along the border areas, including river routes. Through announcements and whistles, the BSF is being informed that the BGB remains on alert," he added.
