Krishak Dal leader killed, BNP leader critically injured in Bagerhat attack
A leader of the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Krishak Dal was killed and a BNP leader was critically injured in an attack by unidentified assailants in Bagerhat last night (9 June), police said.
The incident took place at around 10:30pm in the Niyotir Math area of Fakirhat upazila.
The deceased was Badal Morol, 38, president of Barui Para Union Krishak Dal under Bagerhat Sadar upazila. The injured, Abdullah Morol, is president of the Ward No 1 unit of the BNP in the same union.
According to police and local sources, the two leaders were travelling by motorcycle from Barui Para to Fakirhat when assailants wearing helmets on three motorcycles intercepted them and launched a sudden attack with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.
Superintendent of Police Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar said police officers were at the scene and an investigation is underway.
The police chief added that the full details of the incident are not yet clear, but preliminary information suggests the victims were attacked while travelling through the Niyotir Math area.
He said both were taken to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Badal dead.
Abdullah Morol, who suffered serious injuries, was later transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, the police officer added.
