Man arrested over attack on schoolgirl in Rajshahi
The attack took place when the girl was going to school with her friends, police say.
Rajshahi police arrested a young man yesterday (7 June) after he allegedly attacked a schoolgirl with a sharp knife near the Talaimari area of the city.
The attack occurred shortly after 11am when the girl was going to school with her friends, police said in a press statement.
As they reached the area in front of Diamond Tower in Principal Para of the Talaimari area, Samiul Siraj allegedly confronted them and blocked their path.
He used a sharp weapon to assault the girl, leaving her with serious injuries to her hand and abdomen, police said.
He fled the scene immediately after the attack.
The victim's friends rescued her and took her to the emergency department of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Gaziur Rahman, spokesperson for Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said following a police operation, Boalia police officers arrested Samiul, a resident of Matihar area, yesterday evening.
Legal proceedings in connection with the incident are currently underway, he added.
