In the past four years, 41 countries have broken or matched their all-time national heat records, some multiple times. During this period, global temperatures reached unprecedented levels; the daily global average hit a record 17.16°C on 22 July 2024 – the highest since Copernicus data began in 1940. Bangladesh also recorded its second-highest temperature on record in April 2024, when Jashore hit 43.8°C, just shy of the 45.1°C national record set in 1972.
