22 NCP leaders, activists resign from newly formed Ctg city unit convening committee
The resigning members include joint conveners, joint member secretaries, assistant organising secretaries, secretaries and general members.
A total of 22 leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) have resigned from the newly announced convening committee of its Chattogram city unit.
The resigning members include joint conveners, joint member secretaries, assistant organising secretaries, secretaries and general members.
Confirming the matter today (15 May), Rafsan Joni Riaz, the committee's office secretary, said dedicated and long-serving activists were not properly evaluated and those who had worked for the organisation for a long time had been deprived, according to the resigning members.
He also said the issue of re-evaluating the committee would be raised with the party's Convener Nahid Islam.
One of the resigning leaders, Hujjatul Islam Sayed, who served as an assistant organising secretary, said they had joined NCP politics with expectations of ideology, ethics and transparent political practice.
However, he said they have become disappointed due to the recent committee formation and allegations of various unethical activities.
"Personal interest and corruption have no place in political organisations," he added.
Hujjatul further said although they are stepping down from party positions, they will continue to work in favour of public interest, justice and a transparent political culture in the future.
NCP Divisional Organising Secretary ASM Suja Uddin, however, said the metropolitan committee was formed based on verified information of nearly 1,000 organisers from 41 wards.
He said priority was given to former politicians, doctors, engineers, young July fighters, expatriates and respected local figures, adding that the committee would create a new foundation for the future politics of Chattogram.
He further said no resignation letters have been received and that those being reported as having resigned are, in many cases, unaware of such claims, with their names included without their consent.
According to Suja, discussions are ongoing with those dissatisfied over personal positions, and many have already confirmed their roles, describing the issue as a misunderstanding.
He also said the party's convener and chief organiser personally attended the new member induction programme and spoke with almost all members, adding that the committee was formed through an organisational process.
Suja added that such a democratic process had been rare in the past.
Earlier yesterday (14 May), a 168-member convening committee for the Chattogram city unit was announced, with Mir Mohammad Shoaib as convener and Arif Moinuddin as member secretary.
