Gazette issued for 7-day Eid-ul-Adha holiday from 25 May; offices to remain open on 23 May
All government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous and private offices across the country will remain closed during the period.
The Ministry of Public Administration today (14 May) issued a gazette notification declaring a seven-day holiday from 25 to 31 May for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.
The notification also said the weekly holiday on 23 May has been cancelled. "Offices will remain open on that day and 24 May will be the last working day before Eid-ul-Adha."
Earlier on 7 May, the government approved an executive order declaring 25 May a public holiday at a cabinet meeting.
Eid-ul-Adha is expected to be celebrated on 28 May, subject to moon sighting.
According to the notification, all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous and private offices across the country will remain closed during the period.
Meanwhile, emergency services will remain outside the scope of the holiday.
Essential services, including electricity, water, gas and other fuel supply services, fire service operations, port activities, cleaning services, telephone and internet services, postal services and transport services related to these sectors will continue operations during the break.
Hospitals and emergency healthcare services will also remain operational. Doctors, healthcare workers and vehicles transporting medicines and medical equipment will remain exempt from the closure.
Offices involved in emergency operations will remain open during the holiday period.
The ministry further stated that Bangladesh Bank will issue necessary instructions regarding banking operations, while the Supreme Court will provide directives regarding court activities during the Eid holidays.
For private industrial establishments and factories, the Ministry of Labour and Employment will issue separate instructions in line with the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, the notification added.
