2 more Bangladeshis reportedly killed in Lebanon
However, the embassy said the deaths could not yet be confirmed because the bodies had not been identified.
Two more Bangladeshi expatriates were allegedly killed in an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon last night (11 May), although the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut said it could not yet confirm the deaths due to difficulties in identifying the bodies.
According to a press release, various sources reported that Sree Shuvo Kumar Das, son of Suronjon and Shika from Sreepotipur, Kalaroa, Murarikati in Satkhira, and Karim Miah, son of Kazam Ali and Moyna Begum from Haran Khola, Dulalpur in Shibpur, Narsingdi, died in an Israeli drone strike at their residence in the Mayfadoun area of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon.
However, the embassy said the deaths could not yet be confirmed because the bodies had not been identified.
Meanwhile, family members of Sree Shuvo Kumar Das confirmed his death this evening (12 May).
Shuvo's elder brother Shanta Das said the family had sent him to Lebanon in 2024 through loans due to financial hardship, where he worked at a cattle farm.
"This morning, the embassy called and informed us that my brother had died in the drone strike," he said.
Shuvo's mother Shikha Rani Das said she had spoken to her son on Monday night.
"I asked him to come home next month. He said, 'Mother, I will return at the end of the year.' Who knew those would be his last words," she said.
Family sources said Shuvo Kumar Das had been living abroad for around three years and worked looking after a house and adjacent fruit orchard, while the family depended on his income.
The embassy added that it remains in continuous contact with local authorities regarding the matter.
