The Appellate Division has fined the three convicts, whose death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment, with Tk 50,000 each in the murder case of Gopal Krishna Muhuri, former principal of Nazirhat College in Chattogram.

The three-member Appellate Division virtual court, led by Senior Justice Iman Ali, issued the order on Thursday.

On October 6, Appellate Division commuted the death sentence of three convicts to imprisonment till natural death in the sensational murder case of 2001.

However, the grounds on which the court commuted their death sentence could be known when the full text of the verdict will be released.

In 2001, armed miscreants broke into Principal Muhuri's house on Jamal Khan Road in Chattogram and killed him.
