NSU hosts ADB-SIPG training on public policy monitoring
North South University's South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG), in partnership with the Capacity Development Resource Center of the Asian Development Bank's Bangladesh Resident Mission, organised a three-day training programme on public policy monitoring and evaluation, reinforcing its commitment to evidence-based governance.
The programme, titled 'Monitoring and Evaluation for Public Policy: Evidence, Accountability, and Learning in Practice', was held from 26 to 28 April at North South University.
Senior government officials and policy practitioners from various ministries and public institutions participated.
The training aimed to strengthen participants' capacity in monitoring and evaluation, evidence-based decision-making, and accountability in public policy implementation.
It focused on bridging the gap between compliance-based reporting and learning-oriented monitoring and evaluation in the public sector.
Over three days, participants joined interactive sessions, case-based discussions, and hands-on exercises on indicator development, results frameworks, administrative data use, monitoring systems, evaluation methods, and adaptive management.
The training also addressed institutional constraints and real-world policy challenges specific to Bangladesh.
The closing ceremony was held at the NSU Moot Court Room, where certificates were awarded to participants who successfully completed the training.
Dr Rizwan Khair, associate professor and chair, Department of Political Science and Sociology, NSU, moderated the ceremony.
Professor Sk Tawfique M Haque, director, SIPG, highlighted the importance of shifting from compliance-driven reporting to evidence-based learning and adaptive governance in the public sector.
SM Ebadur Rahman, lead social sector officer, education and health, Asian Development Bank's Bangladesh Resident Mission, stressed the need to strengthen institutional capacity and foster partnerships to improve public sector performance.
Vice-chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury attended as chief guest.
He underscored the importance of capacity development initiatives for improving governance and public service delivery in Bangladesh.
Senior government officials, academics, development practitioners, and ADB representatives attended the programme.
Organisers stated that the initiative reflects SIPG's ongoing commitment to advancing policy-relevant research, professional training, and institutional capacity development in Bangladesh and the wider region.
