BMU observes World Intellectual Property Day
Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) marked World Intellectual Property Day 2026 with a vibrant rally on its Shahbagh campus in Dhaka, underscoring its commitment to research, innovation, and intellectual property rights.
Organised by the university's Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, the rally started in front of B Block, according to a press release.
This year's theme was 'IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate'.
Vice-chancellor Professor Dr FM Siddiqui inaugurated the rally as chief guest.
Speaking at the event, Professor Siddiqui noted that universities are centres of knowledge, research, and innovation.
'As a university, Bangladesh Medical University is making significant contributions to research and innovation,' he said.
He added that effective initiatives have been undertaken to establish an innovation hub at the university.
The vice-chancellor noted that BMU has immense potential in higher medical education, research, and innovation in the health sector.
He also emphasised the need to ensure intellectual property rights for innovations.
'In this era of knowledge, science and technology, and continuous innovation, attention must be paid to securing patents, copyrights, and intellectual property ownership,' he added.
Professor Siddiqui stated that observing World Intellectual Property Day is highly significant in this context.
Attendees included Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad, pro-vice-chancellor (administration); Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader, pro-vice-chancellor (research and development); Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam, pro-vice-chancellor (academic affairs); Professor Dr Nahreen Akhter, treasurer; Professor Dr Md Mostafa Kamal, registrar; Professor Dr Syed Akram Hossain, chairman, Clinical Oncology Department; and Md Lutfor Rahman, deputy ,controller of examinations.
Professor Dr Nurun Nahar Begum, chairman, Institutional Quali,ty Assurance Cell, presided over the programme, with Dr Deen Mohammad Faruk Osmani, additional director, moderating.
Teachers, physicians, and officials of BMU were also in attendance.
