Bangladesh sends emergency medical aid to Iran following PM's directive
Assistance being delivered via Red Crescent Society
Bangladesh on Thursday (23 April) handed over emergency medical relief supplies to Iran, expressing solidarity with the brotherly people of the country amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Secretary General of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Kabir M Ashraf Alam, handed over emergency medical supplies to the Ambassador of Iran to Bangladesh, Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, in Dhaka.
At the event held at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka, Md Nazrul Islam, secretary (Bilateral) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Md Humayun Kabir, director general of the West Asia Wing, were present on behalf of the government of Bangladesh.
During the event, Secretary Nazrul expressed deep concern and sorrow over the extensive loss of lives and property caused by the conflict in the Middle East. He expressed hope that the crisis would be resolved through diplomatic efforts and that lasting peace would be established in the Middle East.
While receiving the assistance, Iranian Ambassador Jahanabadi expressed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for this humanitarian initiative by the Government of Bangladesh.
He highlighted the strong and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Iran and thanked the people of Bangladesh for their compassion and sincere support for the people of Iran during this difficult time.
Kabir, secretary general of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, stated that the Red Crescent works for oppressed people around the world. He noted that participating in humanitarian assistance for the people of Iran during wartime is part of their responsibility.
Earlier on 6 April 2026, in response to the current situation in the Middle East, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman provided a grant of Tk1 crore to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society for the purchase of emergency medicines and medical equipment to support the treatment of injured people in Iran.
