A science and technology university will be established in Narsingdi, declared Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun.

The government has already decided in principle to set up a university in the district, famous for textile craft industry, to create opportunities for the new generation students to study on science and technology.

The industries minister on Friday made the announcement while visiting the proposed site for the university at Purbakandi area in Raipura upazila's Mirzanagar Union.

He was accompanied by Dr Moniruzzaman, chief advisor of the Narsingdi Science and Technology University Implementation Council, Mirzanagar Union Parishad Chairman Md Humayun Kabir and other dignitaries of the area.

Later, Minister Nurul Majid, along with Dr Moniruzzaman, visited the upazila's Adiabad Literature and Linguistics Centre where he made a promise for the centre's development.

In the afternoon, the minister participated in a discussion meeting and prize giving ceremony as the chief guest, which was held by a local organisation in his constituency in Manohardi.
