Constitution to be amended in line with aspirations of public, July martyrs: Salahuddin
The minister said that all amendment processes would be carried out through a consensus-based agreement founded on the July National Charter signed by political parties.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the Constitution will be amended by giving top priority to the expectations of the people and the aspirations of the martyrs of the 2024 July Uprising.
He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after the closing parade of the 43rd BCS (Police) batch training at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, today (28 March).
The minister said that all amendment processes would be carried out through a consensus-based agreement founded on the July National Charter signed by political parties.
He emphasised that a Constitution Reform Committee would be formed to hold detailed discussions and formulate proposals.
Responding to a question regarding the possible inclusion of Ziaur Rahman as the proclaimer of independence in the Constitution, the home minister said the matter would be reviewed by the reform committee.
"We will proceed based on the July National Charter, giving due importance to the current expectations of the people and the dreams of the martyrs of the July uprising," he added.
He further noted that the committee would prepare a draft prioritising the key issues outlined in the charter, which serves as a document of political consensus.
The final decision on amendments would be taken through the constitutional process, including the first, second, and third readings in the national parliament.
Earlier, speaking as the chief guest at the certificate awarding ceremony for the newly commissioned officers of the 43rd BCS (Police) batch, the home minister said, "From today, a new chapter of your lives begins. This uniform is not merely a symbol of power, it is a symbol of responsibility, sacrifice, and service."
He urged the new officers to dedicate themselves to serving the country with integrity, courage, and humanity.
