Govt determined to ensure safe workplace environment for women: Sufian
"Signing ILO convention 190 alone won’t do; men and women must work together to protect the dignity of women, while ensuring a safe environment for them in the workplace"
The government is pledge-bound to ensure safe and sensible environment for women in workplaces, said State Minister for Labor and Employment, Begum Monnujan Sufian.
The State Minister said this in her speech at a conference on 'Contribution and Protection of Women in the Workplace: Implementation of the ILO Convention and National Policy' at the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in the capital on Wednesday.
The Development Coordination organized the event with Care Bangladesh.

Leaders of various labor unions and NGO representatives participated in the conference. Asif Imran, advocacy co-auditor at Care Bangladesh, presented the keynote essay, with recommendation for signing ILO Convention 190 to address violence and harassment in the workplace, especially on women workers.
The State Minister, at the conference, said, "The government wants to create a better country for future generations through the elimination of corruption, terrorism and militancy. Bangladesh has signed 35 conventions, including 7 core conventions, of ILO. The government has been working relentlessly to implement the conventions."
Regarding the demand for signing ILO convention 190, the Minister said, "Signing ILO convention 190 alone won't do; men and women must work together to protect the dignity of women, while ensuring a safe environment for them in the workplace."
Dr Atiur Rahman, the former governor at the Bangladesh Bank and Chairman at the Development Coordination, presided over the conference; while members of the parliament Shirin Akhtar, Faridul Haque Khan Dulal, Khodeja Nasreen Hossain, and Selima Ahmad spoke on the occasion.
