CEC calls for peaceful, festive voting, seeks public cooperation
He called for voters to accept outcomes with respect and uphold harmony at polling stations
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has called on all citizens to ensure a peaceful, fair, and festive atmosphere as Bangladesh prepares to go to the polls in the 13th national election and referendum tomorrow (12 February).
Addressing the nation at 7pm today (11 February) on the eve of the elections, the CEC emphasised the collective responsibility of voters, political parties, election officials, and law enforcement agencies in safeguarding a smooth voting process.
"We want to hold the elections in a peaceful and festive atmosphere. Please assist election officers, executive magistrates, and law enforcement personnel in handling any untoward incident," he said.
Paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War and the July Uprising, Nasir Uddin described the elections as "one of the most important in history," urging citizens to exercise their right to vote consciously and responsibly.
He stressed that dissent is a natural part of democracy but called for voters to accept outcomes with respect and uphold harmony at polling stations.
The CEC also appealed to all stakeholders, including journalists, observers, and service providers, to put aside personal grievances and contribute to the success of the elections.
"With the combined efforts of all of us, we can witness a fair, beautiful, peaceful, and festive election," he said.
The national election and the referendum will be held simultaneously across the country tomorrow. Voting will begin at 7:30am and continue uninterrupted until 4:30pm.
