Women participate for first time in Jamaat rally during sylhet election campaign
Jamaat leaders said around 5,000 chairs had been arranged for female attendees.
For the first time during this year's ongoing national election campaign, women joined a Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami rally in Sylhet today (7 February).
A large number of women attended the election rally at Alia Madrasa ground in the city this afternoon, where Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman was present as the chief guest.
The party had designated a separate section for women on the northern side of the field, enclosed with bamboo fencing and black curtains. Men were not allowed to enter this area.
Jamaat leaders said around 5,000 chairs had been arranged for female attendees.
According to sources, from about 2:30pm, party leaders, activists, and supporters began arriving at the venue in groups and processions, with women also coming in organised groups.
Sylhet city Jamaat Ameer Fakhrul Islam said this was the first time women had participated in a Jamaat rally in the city.
He added that the party was prioritising women's inclusion, as they make up a significant share of the country's voters.
