The women's wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami brought out a procession in the capital's Mirpur-10 area today (7 February), in support of the party's ameer and Dhaka-15 candidate, Shafiqur Rahman, ahead of the upcoming national election.
The rally started at Folpotti Mor in Mirpur-10 and moved to Kazipara, where it ended with a short gathering.
Leaders of the women's wing from Dhaka North addressed the participants, urging voters to cast their ballots in the upcoming election. They also condemned recent attacks on women in various parts of the country.
Speaking at the gathering, Irani Akter, central working committee member, said, "Human welfare must be achieved in two ways: by making life on this earth safe, and by establishing a just and fair society."
She expressed hope that Shafiqur Rahman would carry out welfare-oriented work and address the ills in society.
Irani further said, "We want to send a message to women that women's liberation, security, and rights can be ensured through the establishment of a just and fair society. We will appeal to all voters, especially women, to vote for justice and fairness to create a humane society.''
Central executive committee member Mobarak Hossain also addressed the gathering.
