Voting for Jamaat 'haram', says Hefazat ameer
Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Muhibbullah Babunagari also described Jamaat-e-Islami as a 'vein-slitting group'.
Voting for Jamaat-e-Islami is "not permissible for Muslims" and is "haram," Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Muhibbullah Babunagari said, warning that Islam and faith would be undermined if the party came to power.
He made the remarks after an event at Kazir Hat Baro Madrasa in Fatikchhari upazila, Chattogram, on Thursday (5 February) night.
A video of the speech later went viral on social media.
BNP-nominated candidate for Chattogram-2, Sarwar Alamgir, was also present at the event.
During his speech, Muhibbullah also described Jamaat-e-Islami as a "vein-slitting group".
He said he does not understand elections and instead views the political contest as a "Jihad".
He added that, in their opposition to Maududi's Jamaat, Hefazat members are moving forward with the BNP candidate at the forefront.
Muhibbullah has made critical comments about Jamaat-e-Islami on several occasions in the past.
He previously congratulated Syed Rezaul Karim, widely known as Charmonai Pir, after Islami Andolan Bangladesh withdrew from the Jamaat-led election alliance.
