Ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election, the district administration has identified 574 out of 805 polling centres across six constituencies in Brahmanbaria as risky.
According to the district administration, of the 574 risky polling centres, 482 were classified as risky and 92 as highly risky, with election office sources saying the assessment was based on local social conditions, violence-prone areas, communication challenges and past election-related incidents across the district's six constituencies.
Additional security measures will be in place at the centres, with District Administrator and Returning Officer Sharmin Akter Jahan saying CCTV cameras will be installed at all polling stations and police and Ansar personnel will be deployed in greater numbers at risky centres as directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
She further said that strike teams, along with members of the army and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), would be deployed at centres deemed highly risky.
"Instructions have been given to ensure a higher concentration of forces at these centres," the returning officer added.
Notably, 48 candidates, nominated by various political parties and independent candidates are contesting the six parliamentary seats in Brahmanbaria, which has a total of 2,608,087 registered voters.
