Children find looted police grenades while playing in Bandarban
Police said the recovered gas grenades are typically used by police to disperse mobs.
Children found two looted police gas grenades while playing in Bandarban and later handed them over to the police.
The grenades were found this morning (31 January) beside a small stream in the Kasem Para area of Bandarban municipality.
Confirming the matter, Bandarban Superintendent of Police Md Abdur Rahman said a few local children went to play near the stream and noticed something wrapped in a polythene bag lying abandoned by the stream.
"Out of curiosity, they opened the bag and found two round objects, which they took with them. Later, after hearing from residents that the objects were bombs, the children handed them over to the police, who were on patrol in the bus station area," he added.
Police said the recovered gas grenades are typically used by police to disperse mobs.
"Since police stations in Bandarban were not attacked on 5 August, it is clear the grenades do not belong to Bandarban police. The grenades are suspected to have been looted from police in another district," Abdur Rahman said.
