Dhaka-8 has a cartel king like Pablo Escobar: Nasiruddin Patwary
“Just as Pablo Escobar was a cartel king, Dhaka-8 also has someone like that. A person from the upper strata of society wakes up in the morning and starts extortion in the name of Allah,” he says.
National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator and Dhaka-8 parliamentary candidate Nasiruddin Patwary has alleged that the constituency has a "cartel king" similar to notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar.
Hinting at BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas without naming him directly, Patwary said, "Just as Pablo Escobar was a cartel king, Dhaka-8 also has someone like that. A person from the upper strata of society wakes up in the morning and starts extortion in the name of Allah."
Speaking to reporters during an election campaign in Dhaka-8 today (31 January), the NCP leader warned, "No matter how powerful they are, we will bring them under the law."
Mirza Abbas is also contesting from the same constituency.
Drawing further comparisons, Patwary said the political culture in the area resembles "Ayyam-e-Jahiliyyah". "Just like Pakistan's Dawood Ibrahim, a similar character has emerged here as well," he added.
He further alleged that Dhaka-8 is witnessing uncivilised behaviour and the language of gangsters, with little respect shown to juniors or ordinary people.
Outlining his priorities if elected, Patwary said he would focus on ensuring the right to education and healthcare in the constituency, resolving drainage problems and addressing issues related to local kitchen markets.
He also vowed to take action against extortion and terrorism and to ensure justice for slain Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
