Today (4 December), BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced a primary list of candidates for 36 more constituencies at a press conference at the party chairperson's office in Gulshan.
The party had earlier announced candidates for 13 of Dhaka's 20 constituencies. Of the seven seats that were kept vacant, the party has now declared candidates for four.
Earlier, on 3 November, the BNP unveiled a preliminary list of candidates for 237 seats, although the Madaripur-1 nomination was suspended a day later.
With the second phase of nominations, the party has now revealed names for 36 additional constituencies.
The new candidates in Dhaka
Dhaka-7: Hamidur Rahman Hamid, BNP National Executive Committee, contesting a national election for the first time.
There had been speculation that the BNP might leave this seat for Bangladesh Khilafat Majlish chief Maulana Mamunul Haque.
Dhaka-9: Former Chhatra Dal general secretary Habibur Rashid Habib, also a first-time national candidate.
The seat had earlier been left vacant amid discussions that it might be allocated for Tasnim Jara, senior joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), who is also contesting from the same constituency.
BNP Women's Wing President Afroza Abbas had also sought nomination here.
Dhaka-10: BNP Executive Committee member Shaikh Robiul Alam, who previously contested in 2018, receives the nomination. BNP International Affairs Secretary Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim had also sought nomination for this seat.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain is also expected to contest from this constituency and may run as a BNP-backed candidate if an understanding is reached with the party.
Dhaka-18: BNP nominates SM Jahangir Hossain, joint convener of the Dhaka North BNP. He has also contested before.
Earlier, speculation grew that July Uprising martyr Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho's brother Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho might receive the nomination after joining BNP last month.
However, the party ultimately selected Jahangir.
