DU to retain winter vacation; classes to resume, halls to reopen from 28 December
Ongoing online classes will continue until 13 December to compensate for the teaching hours lost during the emergency closure
Dhaka University (DU) has announced that all residential halls will reopen and regular academic classes will resume from 28 December, following a technical evaluation conducted after the recent earthquake.
The university has also decided to retain the previously announced winter vacation.
Ongoing online classes will continue until 13 December to compensate for the teaching hours lost during the emergency closure. In addition, 23 and 24 December will be observed as extra holidays.
No internal examinations will be held during this period.
The announcement was made in a press release issued by the Dhaka University Public Relations Office today (3 December). The decisions were finalised earlier this morning at a meeting of the Deans' Committee, held in the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Room.
According to the press release, the committee reviewed the technical inspection and evaluation of the university's residential halls. Recommendations from a sub-committee, which included experts from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) and the DU Engineering Office, were also examined in detail.
The committee further resolved that examinations will resume in the first week of January. Departments have been instructed to reschedule examination timelines in consultation with their respective Deans and in coordination with the Controller of Examinations Office.
The statement also noted that emergency damage assessment and repair work in the residential halls is currently underway. Some repair activities may continue even after the residences reopen.
