Investigating officer of the case Rab senior ASP Khairul Islam said that the court put the four police members on four-day remand in the second phase on August 24 for further questioning.

Pradeep Kumar Das, Liakat and Nanda Dulal Rakshit, the three main accused in the case, were also put on four-day remand on the same day, Khairul Islam said.

These four policemen were not remanded as the three main accused were interrogated earlier. The four have been remanded in custody since Sunday. They were taken to hospital for medical examination from the jail, Khairul Islam added.

Among the three main accused in the case, Pradeep Kumar Das were remanded for 15 days in four phases and Liakat and Nanda Dulal Rakshit were remanded for 14 days in three phases.

Liakat and Nanda Dulal gave confessional statements under section 164, Pradeep did not agree to confess. They are all in jail now.

A total of eight people, including three members of the APBn have so far given confessional statements.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development) of the Chattogram Division Md Mizanur Rahman said the committee formed by the Home Ministry to probe the Major Sinha murder will submit its report to the ministry on September 7.

Major Sinha (Retd) was shot dead by the police at Shamlapur checkpost under Baharchora union in Teknaf Upazila on July 31 this year. A high-level inquiry committee was formed by the home ministry when tensions arose between the army and police force.

Sinha's sister filed a murder case in the Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court accusing nine people, including then OC Pradeep and inspector Liakat Ali on August 5. All the 9 policemen accused were dismissed from the force.

The case is being investigated by Cox's Bazar RAB-15.

The probe committee started investigation on August 3. The ministry gave the committee seven working days to submit the case report. The report submission time was later extended three times till September 6 as the committee could not take any statement from Pradeep Kumar Das before the previous report submission deadlines.

The probe committee received a statement from Pradeep Kumar Das at the Cox's Bazar District Jail on September 2. The committee then prepared an 80-page report with 13 recommendations and 586 attached pages.
