Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rakibul Hasan passed the order after a hearing this evening
A Dhaka court has granted bail to content creator Ashraful Alom, popularly known as Hero Alom, in a case filed by his former wife, Ria Moni, over alleged abuse and dowry.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rakibul Hasan passed the order after a hearing this evening (15 November).
Police produced Hero Alom to the court from Hatirjheel Police Station around 4:10pm. He was kept in court custody before being taken to the courtroom under tight security.
During the hearing, defence lawyers Shanta Sachsina, Ripon and others sought bail, while the plaintiff's lawyers Ziaur Rahman and Abhijit Majumder opposed the plea. After hearing both sides, the court granted bail on a Tk200 bond.
Plaintiff Ria Moni was present during the proceedings.
Speaking to reporters, she said, "Hero Alom needs to learn a lesson. Just as I was wrongfully made to suffer, he should also face consequences."
Police arrested Hero Alom earlier in the day in connection with the case filed by Ria Moni.
On 12 November, the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman issued arrest warrants in the case against Hero Alom and his associate Ahsan Habib Selim.
According to the case statement, a dispute recently arose between Hero Alom and Ria Moni, after which he divorced her and allegedly forced her out of their home. On 21 June, both families met at a house in the capital's Hatirjheel area to resolve the conflict.
Ria Moni alleges that during the meeting, 10-12 people, including Hero Alom, verbally abused her and her family. They later allegedly entered her current residence, assaulted her with wooden sticks, and stole a gold chain weighing one and a half bhori.
Ria Moni filed the case at Hatirjheel Police Station on 23 June.
