Marathon held in Dhaka to mark World Diabetes Day, raise awareness
Renowned endocrinologists, students of endocrinology, general students and members of the public took part in the event.
The Bangladesh Endocrine Society today (14 November) organised a 7.5-km marathon in the capital's Hatirjheel area on the occasion of World Diabetes Day.

Nearly 1,000 participants completed the full course around Hatirjheel.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr Faria Afsana, president of the Bangladesh Endocrine Society, said the event aimed to encourage people to engage in physical exercise and regular walking.
She thanked all participants and said similar awareness programmes will be held every year to mark the day.
Prof Md Faruque Pathan, endocrinologist and chief patron of the society, said not only diabetes patients but everyone should walk regularly to stay healthy and prevent diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.
Following the marathon, prizes were awarded to the champions and first and second runners-up in the doctors' and general categories. All participants received medals and certificates.
The event was organised with support from Opsonin Pharma, while Ultra Camp Runners handled event management.
