Police recovered one lakh yaba pills from a car abandoned by its driver at a checkpoint in Chattogram city's Kotwali area last evening (13 November).
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Karim said the incident occurred on Mariner's Road near the Fishery Ghat area, where a temporary police checkpoint had been set up.
"The car was heading from the Shah Amanat Bridge area towards Kotwali. As it approached the checkpoint, the driver suddenly stopped, got out, and fled on foot," the OC said.
Upon searching the vehicle, police found ten packets of yaba tablets, each containing 10,000 pills, totaling one lakh pieces, he added
OC Karim added that police suspect the car came from Cox's Bazar, the main entry point of yaba into the country. "We have seized the vehicle and recovered a mobile phone from inside, which will help identify the driver. An investigation is underway," he said.
A case is being filed against unidentified persons over the drug seizure.
