Arson at Grameen Bank branch in Brahmanbaria damages documents, furniture, says manager
No casualties were reported, and the bank authorities confirmed that the vault containing cash remained intact
Unidentified miscreants allegedly set fire to a branch of Grameen Bank in Brahmanbaria's Bijoynagar upazila in the dead of night (11 November), damaging documents and furniture.
The incident occurred at the bank's Chandura branch around midnight. No casualties were reported, and the bank authorities confirmed that the vault containing cash remained intact.
According to the branch manager, Kalim Uddin, "Around 2am, some miscreants poured petrol from outside and set the bank on fire. The night guard noticed the blaze and immediately informed the authorities. With the help of locals, the fire was brought under control before the fire service arrived to extinguish it completely."
Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police Md Obaidur Rahman said, "It is not yet confirmed whether the fire was an act of arson or occurred accidentally. Police are investigating the incident, and the exact cause will be determined after the probe."
