Many leaders of ruling Awami League as well as high government officials are allegedly involved in illegal casino business in the capital, detained Jubo League leader and casino owner Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan disclosed the information in a statement to the police.

Law enforcers are preparing a list of suspected individuals as well as an action plan for further drives in perspective of Khalid's information.

During the interrogation, Khalid unfolded, without any reserve, the unlawful ways in which he became a millionaire.

According to sources, he also disclosed information about the deep-rooted irregularities concerning government tender, and his financial transaction with influential persons and government officials.

"Those who can give more money gets the public work. I got many such works through bribing the government officials in government offices. For instance, I bribed the chief engineer at a government office Tk19 crore for a work recently. I have intimacy with the chief engineer."

According to the sources, Khalid had an influence over the government tenders.

"I built 80 to 90 high-rise buildings in Dhaka. I got the tenders. Everything is controlled by the government office. With a fixed percentage reserved for them, officials at the government office decide who will get the tender; they were given Tk5 crore for a public project recently," said Khalid.

According to the sources, Khalid bribed an official of the Engineering Department, stationed in Agargaonwith Tk5 lakh; so as to release a pending bill to the tune of Tk50 lakh.

Khalid informed that Chattogram Railway tender was opened in Dhaka unlawfully.

A RAB official, unwilling to disclose his identity, said: Khaled has provided many information; we are checking on his information, so as to see whether they are true or false. Provided his information comes out as true, we will take necessary steps.

Meanwhile, law-enforcers have found modern torture instruments, including an electric shock machine, in a secret torture cell of Khalid at Eastern Tower, Kamalapur. The cell was used to torture those who opposed any decision of Khalid.

Earlier, RAB arrested Khalid from his Gulshan residence on Wednesday night;fire-arms, yaba, and money were recovered from his house; afterwards, he was later taken to the RAB-3 office.

On Thursday, RAB transferred him to the Gulshan Police Station.
