Navy rescues 13 fishermen after trawler breaks down off Kutubdia coast
The Bangladesh Navy rescued 13 fishermen along with their fishing trawler drifting in the Bay of Bengal after the vessel's engine broke down about 20 nautical miles off Kutubdia Lighthouse in Cox's Bazar.
The rescue took place on Saturday (8 November) during a regular patrol operation by the navy ship BNS Shaheed Mohibullah, according to a press release sent on Sunday morning.
The trawler had been stranded in deep sea since Thursday (6 November) after its engine malfunctioned.
Spotting the navy ship nearby, the fishermen signalled for help using lights and hand gestures.
In response, the patrol ship rushed to the location and carried out the rescue operation.
After being brought on board, the fishermen were provided with first aid, food, medicine, and fresh water.
The navy ship later towed the disabled trawler to shore and handed over the rescued fishermen to their families and the trawler's owner.
The Bangladesh Navy said it continues regular patrols in the country's maritime and coastal areas to ensure the safety of fishermen.
