The confirmed coronavirus cases across the world surged past 25.1 million as of Monday morning, according to the latest tally provided by the Johns Hopkins University (JHU).  

The JHU data shows a total of 25,132,320 people have so far been diagnosed with the virus in 188 countries while the global total death toll from the virus reached 845,054.

Meanwhile, more than 16.5 million people have recovered from the virus infections, reveals the data.

The United States retained its position as the worst hit country from the virus with 5,994,855 confirmed cases and 183,045 deaths.

The US is followed by Brazil that recorded 3,862,311 confirmed cases and 120,828 deaths so far.

Apart from these, the following positions were taken by India, Russia, Peru and South Africa.

India on Sunday reported the world's highest single-day rise with 78,761 new cases, taking the total cases to 3,542,733. It counted 63,498 deaths from the virus.

Situation in Bangladesh

The coronavirus death toll in Bangladesh rose to 4,248 on Sunday as 42 more people died from the virus infections in 24 hours.

Besides, the total confirmed infection cases surged to 3,10,822 as 1,897 new ones were detected after the tests 11,934 samples during the period.

A press released signed by Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure.

Bangladesh's health authorities also counted 3,044 recoveries during the period, taking the total number of recovered patients to 2,01,907.

A total of 92 labs across the country are now testing samples of suspected covid-19 patients.
