Dhaka, Badrunnesa college students end Science Lab blockade after 1hr
The road blockade disrupted traffic and caused suffering for commuters, while additional police were deployed to keep the situation under control.
Higher secondary students of Dhaka College and Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls College, who had blocked the Science Lab intersection for nearly an hour today (14 October), withdrew their blockade and returned to campus after the Dhaka College principal urged them to do so.
They had blocked the intersection in the capital this morning to protest the alleged harassment of teachers and allegations of assault of an undergraduate student at Dhaka College, also demanding the cancellation of a draft ordinance to form a "Dhaka Central University," which would merge seven colleges in the capital.
Their road blockade disrupted traffic and caused suffering for commuters, while additional police were deployed to keep the situation under control.
The protesters claimed that some undergraduate students are spreading false information and trying to label them as "criminals."
One protesting student, Nuruj Safa, said, "They are saying we broke the leg of an honours student yesterday. But there were around 400–500 undergraduate students present; how could just three or four higher secondary students launch such an attack?
"The person claimed to be injured was even seen speaking at a press conference later that evening. This is pure drama, and we strongly protest it."
The protesters demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the incident and urged the administration to take appropriate action against those responsible.
The college authorities had not yet made any official comment on the matter at the time of reporting.
