Thief held with stolen money in connection with New Market City Complex burglary

Police have arrested an alleged thief and recovered part of the stolen money along with burglary tools in connection with a theft at the New Market City Complex (Bishwas Builders) in the capital.
The arrestee was identified as Md Alim Hawlader, 36.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman today (13 October) said unidentified thieves broke open locks on the fourth and ground floors of the New Market City Complex on the night of 4 October and stole Tk20,99,452 in cash before fleeing the scene.
Following a complaint filed by the shop owner, Md Manik, New Market police registered a case over the incident.
During the investigation, the New Market police team analysed CCTV footage and used technology to identify those involved in the burglary.
Acting on the information, police, with the assistance of Bamna Police Station in Barguna district, conducted a raid early Friday (October 10) around 4:30am and arrested Alim Hawlader from Purba Balaya Buniya village under Bamna upazila, said the DC (media).
Based on his confession, police recovered Tk1,40,000 in cash and a crowbar used in the burglary, he added.
