Special operation held at secretariat to stop single-use plastics

Three monitoring teams of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, carried out a special operation today to enforce the ban on single-use plastics (SUP) at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The drive began before 9am at Gates 2 and 5 of the Secretariat. During the operation, officials, employees, and visitors entering the premises were found to have banned polythene and SUP items, which were confiscated. As an alternative, eco-friendly cloth bags were distributed among them. Strict instructions were also issued, prohibiting the carrying of SUP inside the Secretariat in future.
Law enforcement personnel were stationed at all entry points to prevent anyone from bringing plastic items into the premises.
Visitors and staff were also made aware of the harmful impacts of SUP and were encouraged to adopt sustainable, environmentally friendly alternatives.
The ministry said this operation marks the beginning of the enforcement campaign.
Step by step, the ban will be expanded to other government offices nationwide, as part of efforts to reduce plastic pollution, safeguard the environment, and promote a sustainable lifestyle.
