RU Applied Chemistry alumni body holds triennial AGM

The triennial general meeting 2025 of the Welfare Society of Ex-Students of Applied Chemistry (WSESAC), the alumni organisation of the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Rajshahi University (RU), has been held, where a new committee was formed.
The meeting, presided over by WSESAC President Mr Sheikh Yusuf Harun, was held on Friday night (26 September 2025) at Banani Club in Dhaka. The information was shared in a press release signed by Mr Zamael Ullah Sami, publicity secretary of the newly approved committee.
During the meeting, a new 35-member committee was formed unanimously. Mr Nazrul Islam, managing director of Ratul Group, was elected president, and Mr Mizanur Rahman, director of Fassion Flash Limited, was elected general secretary. The committee includes five vice presidents, three joint secretaries and 16 executive members, totalling 35 members, with an additional 20 members appointed as advisers. A revised constitution of the organisation was also unanimously approved. The approval process was conducted by WSESAC Chief Election Commissioner Mr Munzur Morshed Chunna.
The event was hosted by the new treasurer, Mr SK Emadul Bari. Special guests included Barishal University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Tawfiq Alam. Around 100 active members of the organisation participated.
During the programme, WSESAC honoured Professor Dr Mohammad Tawfiq Alam (vice-chancellor, Barishal University), Professor Dr Ibrahim Hossain Mondal (Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, RU), and Dr Shafiur Rahman (chief scientific officer, Atomic Energy Commission) for their significant contributions to their respective fields and global research.
Mr Nazrul Islam, president of the newly elected committee, told members that strengthening the organisation would require greater unity and active involvement. He pledged to establish a permanent office for WSESAC and provide support for students of the department, including housing and employment assistance in Dhaka.
He further said that former and current students must work together to build cooperation, fraternity, and improve the quality of education and research, in order to develop the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering into a centre of international standard.
