No brick kilns will be permitted to operate in Savar: Rizawana
Mobile courts, involving all relevant government agencies, will be deployed to shut down illegal operations
No brick kiln will be permitted to operate in Savar upazila in the upcoming season to implement the declared Degraded Airshed, Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said today (21 September).
Speaking as chief guest at a meeting at the Department of Environment (DoE) headquarters in Agargaon, she urged brick kiln owners to comply with the government directive.
She further warned that mobile courts, involving all relevant government agencies, will be deployed to shut down illegal operations.
"If any brick kilns are found operating in violation of the law, action will be taken. Mobile courts will also run at night, if necessary, to curb air pollution," she said.
She also directed law enforcers and DoE officials to impose fines and seize materials where construction goods are stored or transported in open spaces.
Earlier this year, the government declared Savar upazila "Degraded Airshed" under the Air Pollution (Control) Rules, 2022.
The adviser emphasised the importance of public awareness campaigns, including notices in newspapers, to educate people on the harmful impacts of air pollution.
"By working together, we will succeed in implementing the declared Degraded Airshed and restore lost life expectancy for a healthier future," she added.
