Fake cosmetics factory sealed off in BSTI drive, products worth Tk1cr seized

The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) sealed off a fake cosmetics factory in Old Dhaka on Monday. 

The factory named Hair Oil was manufacturing fake cosmetics products using the BSTI logo without a license.

A mobile court drive, led by BSTI Executive Magistrate Rashida Akhter, sealed off the factory in the Chawkbazar area of the old town.

During the drive, BSTI found evidence of fake Parachute Coconut Oil, Parachute Beliful Oil, Dabur Amla, Kumarika, Cute, and other products being fabricated and sold.

The factory was fined Tk2.25 lakh. Also, 25,000 bottles of fake cosmetics were seized; worth a market value of around Tk1 crore.

Previously, a similar factory in Bangshal, of the same owner, was fined Tk1 lakh and sealed off.
