SQ Chy's nephews among 9 sued over assault, property grab attempt in Gulshan
The lawsuit alleges that on 14 July, the accused broke into the home, demanded a Tk5 crore ransom, and issued threats.
A case has been filed against nine individuals, including two nephews of late BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, for allegedly assaulting a woman and her children and attempting to seize their property in Dhaka's Gulshan.
Farzana Anna Islam, widow of industrialist Mainul Islam, lodged the case with Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman's court today. The court recorded her statement and directed the CID to investigate and submit a report within a month, her lawyer Morshed Hossain Shaheen said.
The accused include Samir Quader Chowdhury and Shakir Quader Chowdhury, sons of Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, who is the brother of Salauddin Quader and a former MP of Chattogram-6 and 7 constituencies.
Other accused are Arefin Shamsul Alam, Marina Irshad, Keshab Chandra Nath, Harun or Rashid, Ferdous Munshi, Shahabuddin, and Salauddin Abbasi, all affiliated with Shamsul Alamin Real Estate Limited.
According to the case, the dispute began after Mainul's death in 2008. Although the family took possession of their Gulshan apartment in December 2007, the accused allegedly prepared fake documents to seize the second-floor flat.
The lawsuit alleges that on 14 July this year, the accused broke in, demanded Tk5 crore in ransom, and issued threats. On 28 August, they allegedly returned, assaulted the occupants, looted Tk10 lakh and 10 bhori of gold, and vandalised the garage, causing damages worth Tk3 crore.
However, Samir claimed the flat was bought by them and the woman's allegations were completely false. "In the last four and a half years, even until today, we have never gone near that building," he told TBS.
"We purchased this apartment from Shamsul Alamin Real Estate. It was supposed to be used as our office. But she has occupied it illegally. She is threatening our people. Ten days ago, an attempted murder case was filed against her at Gulshan Police Station," he added.
He said they will call a press conference to explain everything in detail today.
